Cold Starting Issue?
Hi all,
Hope you can help cause I'm running out of ideas. I own a 96 Cherokee and recently I've been having problems getting it to start. I live in IL, where it's been fairly cold this winter so my father thinks it may be a cold starting problem. The issue is that occasionally - here and there, not all the time - I can start the jeep but it will only continue to run if I keep my foot on the gas. If I let up, it dies. Two weekends ago we replaced the fuel filter, and I hadn't had problems with it until last night around 10pm when it didn't want to remain running without my foot on the gas. It started fine at 8pm and ran perfectly normal.
I've had this happen before (foot off = dies) back in 07 but it was a bad battery. The battery is fine - I have power since the jeep with start and it reads normal on the gage, so I'm pretty sure that's not it. Like I said, my dad thinks it's a cold start issue. I started it this morning around 10:30ish and it started right up.
Any suggestions as to what might be the problem and how I can fix it could be wonderful! I was able to drive it home yesterday but keeping my foot on the gas even while stopped, but let's face it, that's really not a good way to drive!
Thanks so much! TrackGirl
