sometimes it's a plug down by the clutch pedal and other times (depending on year) it's just a fuse to remove.
you want to do this so when your stuck with the clutch under water, you can shut off the jeep and start it in gear to get yourself out without blowing up your clutch from the water.
don't engage your clutch under water.
i have done this with both our tj's and a few of my friends. but it can be quite dangerous as mentioned. i did the same thing once, and knocked a buddy 10 feet out of my shop while running the jeep into the garage door frame and the rear of my buddies xj, while rubbing the tail light of another xj parked beside mine. could of been worse, i could have pinned him between the jeeps, breaking his legs. and he's a paralegal too, haha.

hmmm yeah i just wanted to see if i bypassed the switch that my jeep would start. ever since i bought it i could start it in first gear with the clutch out or just in neutral with the clutch out it would just lunge forward. i didn't think this was right but yesterday i shut it off at the parts store and got back in and turned the key and all the dingers come on and lights just no crank. pop started it and drove it home...kinda like when u try to start a vehicle in gear with the clutch not pushed in so i'm just trying to check things to maybe narrow something down as to why she's not starting with the key haha and yeah i just put my 6.5 rc lift on it and it won't start lol so i can' t even try out the new lift she's stuck in the garage.

check all battery cables from the battery to the starter/block.
also, make sure the terminals are clean and use some dielectric grease to stop any future corrosion.
