rear axle screw it run what ever locker you want. I've got an Aussie in mine and you'll never knows its back there 99% of the time. to me its the same as driving my LSD equipped Ram everyday. front is where you want a selectable for wheeling so you can turn better.

why not slap in an ford 8.8?

late 90's have disc brakes. only a little more work than a 8.25 or d44.

thats what i did with an Eaton E-locker.

stronger than a d44 or a 8.25. and my brakes are better now with 35's than they were from the factory.

just food for thought.

i like selectable lockers in the rear so i dont have to spend $1200 every year on tires! full time, and lunchbox lockers cause premature tire wear.

My 98 has 35's, locked and 4.56 gears. I flog it all the time at Uwharrie Nat Forest , mud bogs and rock crawls. Before i switched to Nitro Alloys up front I broke several axles and carriers, but the stock axles in the 8.25 have never let me down!! I personally am very happy with the 8.25!!!

Yes, a 8.25 is fine for tires no larger than 35-36 inches, it always gets me when guys state that you need to run Dana 44s, for tires no larger than 35-36 inches. The Chrysler 8.25 with after market 29 spline 1541H shafts are every bit as strong as a Dana 44. The 8.25 has bigger diameter axle tubes, and with the aftermarket shafts will hold up to just as much as the D44.

If it were a choice between a stock 8.25 and a stock D44, I'd go with the 8.25 because you can source jy parts easily, the shafts are just about as strong and you can mod it somewhat with jy parts.

But if you're going to mod it, the D44 hands down. You can get almost any locker, up to cryo'd/chromo 33 spline shafts (way stronger than any 8.8 or 8.25 combo in existance) and almost limitless accessories.

An 8.25 if your a typical wheeler and a D44 if you're a really serious wheeler.

Thumbs down

... I am very sorry for being this stupid, but I just realized that I DO have an 8.25 already... just realized about 30 minutes ago that I never actually checked... I feel like such a MORON! I've had Chery for about a year and a half! I could have sworn I did look... oh well, one less costly thing to worry about

Sorry again for being that retarded everyone... well, just another reason for me to love Chery. Let the flaming commence!!!
