So i have the 29 spline chrysler 8.25 under my 99 xj and was wondering what would be the best brand of locker for it. A buddy of mine and a few other ppl suggested that i just weld it.

Dont weld it! you need to have the slip to turn. go with the detriot or lockrite. I'm going to go with the detroit but they are a lot more expensive.

When I do mine, it will get a Powertrax. I installed one of them in my 01 Durango and it was the best thing I've ever done to that truck. Pretty much never need 4wd on that onw any more. With an automatic, it is smooth to the point of being almost unnoticable, but when it's locked, it's locked.

does this locker engage when torque is sent to it like an aussie?? so with this in the rear diff you still couldn't accelerate out of a turn well?

I have had a powertrax in a 4.7L 4wd Durango for about seven years now. The only thing that is a little noticable is when going about sharp, slow corners, the outside rear wheel scrubs a little. Otherwise, it drives normally to the point that my wife didn't know I'd installed it.

ok so i think ive got my mind set on the detroit locker i was wondering if i could run 35's with stock axles? i was told to do shaves it would be alot better in the long run

my buddy has been running 35's on 8.25/d30 with lockers in front and rear without problem as far as i know

i saved all my pennies and went with arb. i absolutely love it. best of both worlds. mines a dd and i didnt want it locked all the time

I don't know about the other lockers but the PTrax NoSlip is not locked all of the time. When you make a turn, you need a differential, so the PTRAX unlocks allowing the wheels/axles can turn at different speeds.....smooth, like a open diff. When the PTrax locks, one wheel can be in the air, the other on the ground and both will rotate at the same speed. It's all automatic, virtually invisible and no chatter in a turn.

Yup. The Powertrax is kinda like a Detroit but with syncros to smooth out the transition between locked and unlocked.
