Chrysler 8.25 factory gear ratios?
Hey everyone, well after listening to the rear end growling for the last 20k miles it's time to swap it out. The ID tag is missing off the axle, which is a Chrysler 8.25. I cant find information as to the factory gear ratio of the Chrysler rear end. Were there more than one available set of gears offered in the Chrysler 8.25 rear end? It's a 97 Cherokee, 4.0, AW4, 4WD, basic Cherokee (non sport or upcountry). Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
P.S. can i call jeep with the vin# and get the gear ratio that way?

contact chrysler with your VIN and request a build sheet for your XJ
that'll tell you everything about YOUR jeep

If you can't find the stamping on the ring gear, divide the number of teeth on the ring gear by the number on the pinion

You could check the front diff for a tag, but to be sure; raise just one rear tire off the ground and spin the driveshaft. Count how many driveshaft revolutions it takes to get 2 revolutions of the tire and that's your ratio. 3.55 being the most common, if your driveshaft makes 3.5 rotations that's what you got.

What gear ratio?
I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Xj. I'm trying to figure out what gear ratio I have so I can replace the rear. One tag says 3.5. Another tag says 1250, i think. I can't quite make it out completely. I know the last three are definitely 250 but can't make out the first number. Any suggestions anyone?

'90 Laredo with tow package, also 3.55. I've seen some 'charts' claiming that either 3.73 or 4.10 was standard with a tow package which is clearly false. Some indicate that those gears were put in some with the tow package which may be true. I've also seen claims that a tow package in early models included a dana 44 rear instead of a 35 which is also false, if it has ABS it got a 35 no matter what other options it has.
