Default Transmission ran out of oil, first gear hard to engage at cold engine

Hi everyone,
Got a Jeep Cherokee XJ 1994 Sport Auto and I experiencing some issues with my transmission. I ran out of oil and now the first gear is hard to engage when the engine is cold. Needs to gas for a little while before changing.
Once the engine warms up everything is ok and the gears change perfectly and smoothly, including the first from neutral to second.

I changed my transmission gasket, fresh oil, plus oil filter. (Seems it was leaking 😔 but now seems perfect...

I would appreciate any advice on what I can do to fix this issue (if it's possible...) or if there are any possible solutions like an additive oil or something special.

I'm aware that that sounds a transmission gone, but just expecting some hope and help..

Thank you in advance for your help!

What does the fluid look like now after driving it? You may need to do a drain and fill again. requires one gallon of ATF to do.
Speaking of fluids, which fluid did you use?

Have you ever adjusted your TV cable?

Thanks for your reply! Oil was not too bad, I did a deep clean of the transmission pan with magnets too; no, I haven't noticed anything special, bad colour or burn smell after changing oil and a few drives. I use the same oil for years and it's been ok until my gasket went gone and oil started leaking, the oil it's Penrite Automatic Transmission Fluid - Full synthetic (compatible for XJ 94, Dexron III etc.) I tried the TV cable but didn't help neither unfortunately. Strange that this happens only on cold engine and all the other gears are perfectly ok... I will try to drain one more time to see if that helps. Any other suggestions except that? Additive oil or something else in particular that might help ?

I would do a drain and fill and see what happens.

There are some good additives out there, but I can't recommend one over the other.

Ok, I'll give a try this weekend a oil drain and fresh oil refill.

I know there are many additives out there, but If you could recommend some good ones for that purpose would be amazing!..

Thank you again for your help!!

Did the TV cable move for you? You know, did you the cable move when you adjusted it?

BG ATC Plus additive if I'm gonna make a recommendation.

I tried to find the additive but couldn't find it, so looking to order something else and faster in my area.

No, unfortunately the TV cable didn't fix it.

Still have to replace the oil once I'll get that additive, but I'm afraid that won't help neither..

It's a bit of a crap shoot for sure. Why not change the fluid in the meantime?

Alright, I came up with that plan, as I finally got the additives, but before I want if possible have some recommendations if what I do will be the correct operation!...

Just to recall the issue, all my gears shifting great but ONLY the first gear hardly shifting when the car still cold (morning start). In short, after the first gear shifts hardly to the second gear at cold start, it would then shift perfectly all day long while driving or after going for another drive.

After few researchers it seems it could be one of the valve body that could have been contaminated with some deposits and so on one of my transmission shifting solenoid, in this case the first gear!

So this is what I'm planning to do:

1)Good flush
  • Using a transmission flush additive and drive for 10 minutes.
Would use that one: https://www.nulon.com.au/images/Prod...eight=758flush
  • flush the oil

2) Refill + basic additive
  • Refill with fresh new oil,
  • Top up a basic transmission additive (already used that one on my very last refill)
  • Drive for a day or two

Oil:https://penriteoil.com.au/assets/img...b/ATFFS004.png

Additive:https://www.nulon.com.au/images/Prod...683&height=758

3) Re-drain + refill for good with special additive
  • re-drain the oil
  • Refill again for good with fresh oil (same as above)
  • Top up oil with a curing special transmission additive and leave it.

Special additive: https://lucasoil.com/media/k2/galler...n-Fix-24oz.jpg

Seems that Luca's oil saved a lot of ppl, however just concerned as it seems very sick, also some had a very bad experience using it... and perhaps not convenient for my case too, not sure...

What do you guys think? First time I would do with a dedicated flux additive and that Lucas additive cure, so don't be a afraid to refrain me if am about to make a disaster on my lovely old Cherokee with these additives 🤠

Thanks for your help!
