Default I am horrible with electrical your advice would be greatly appreciated

i have a 88 cherokee laredo, and when i turn the key and headlight switch off. the gauge, and shifter lights stays on. if you could please let me know what i could possibly do. it would be greatly appreciated.

he means the Key and ignition switch(what you put your key into to start your jeep)

I dont think it would be the tumbler(ignition switch) cause then the radio would be on as well. what controls the gauge lights and shifter lights? the headlight switch? The headlight switch is also the dimmer switch right? try playing with that?

Does the display on the radio brighten and darken with the headlight being turned on and off? Like the gauages? I'm not too familar with older Jeeps,.. all my junk is 97+

you would have to look at a wiring diagram and see what controls what,..

no stereo cuts on when you turn the key. i have been told before it is possibly the headlight switch. but i need a new ignition switch and lock as well though as mine is locked up

thanks yall that is what my dad thought as well. a guy i work with thinks it is grounding out???
