Weird but figured out when the lock switch is held in the locking position all the guages will work. No wires have been tampered with so I'm just lost. I pulled the plug of the passenger lock and everything (but the locks) are working now.

Will try and dig into this issue this weekend and will report back.

So the weather warmed up a bit today. about 62* in Columbus, OH. My gauges started working today. Not sure if the warm weather had anything to do with it or not. I am going to wait for the gauges to go back out to mess with the passenger wiring so I can tell if it really makes a difference.

Alright, so this morning my cluster was not working. No gauges moved, mileage came on for a few seconds, then NO BUS.
I pulled the passenger side door harness from the kickplate panel, and my gauges still don't work. I'm at a loss. I think I will try and find a cluster at the yard, as everything else has seemed to have no affect. Short of tearing down the entire dash to check for cracked/pinched wires.

The Remote Keyless Entry Module may be corrupting the CCD Data Bus.
Try accessing the RKE Module and unplug it. See if this helps.
Here's a schematic of the CCD Data Bus and the modules connected to it. Any module that is defective may cause CCD Data Bus to go down.
.
Here's a diagram of the door lock system. Note the overhead console. If you only have a dome light, the RKE is inside of it.

CCKen. Thanks for the domelight and RKE diagrams and pictures. hopefully you have hit it on the head. I purchased the XJ used, and the keyless system has not worked since I got it. Will take a look tonight and post back.
CCKen, I really do appreciate your help!

CCKen,
I disconnected the RKE module in the dome light. Gauges still did not work. I re-checked all my fuses, and the cluster still does not operate.
Got gas today (been a little while, cant tell how much fuel I have without gauges), and after I filled her up, the gauges came back on. Could the fuel level sending unit cause a no bus code?
might be time to pickup a used cluster and give that a try.

CCKen,

With the RKE module disconnected, does holding the lock switch to lock bring the gauges back?

There's some magic associated with the fuel level signal to the PCM that has to do with the CCD Data Bus. Can't figure out how or why it does. This may have something to do with what you are saying.
Here's what the FSM says:
For OBD II Emission Monitor Requirements:
The PCM will monitor the voltage output sent from the resistor track on the sending unit to indicate fuel level. The purpose of this feature is to prevent the OBD II system from recording/setting false misfire and fuel system monitor diagnostic trouble codes.
The feature is activated if the fuel level in the tank is less than approximately 15 percent of its rated capacity. If equipped with a Leak Detection Pump (EVAP system monitor), this feature will also be activated if the fuel level in the tank is more than approximately 85 percent of its rated capacity.
might be time to pickup a used cluster and give that a try.
I don't think a different cluster will fix it, but give it a try. I have a tendency to think it might be a grounding issue.

Thanks CCKen, I will start checking all ground locations. I found your very helpful post here (post #49) https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/gre...4/#post2852884
Is there any additional grounds that are specific to the dash?
Found your other post here. You are everywhere CCKen!
