Changing Steering Column
Im fixin to get another steering column for my '93 XJ, was wondering what years of XJ's the steering column would be a exact interchange for mine. Im used to my early model GM's inwhich seems everything interchanges on, so thought before i go the the junkyard and take any year model column out to put in mine id ask first. Also whichever column i do get, im gonna have to get the wiring harness that plugs into it anyways thanks to the previous owner and his bright idea of wiring in a toggle switch and push button start.

You should be perfectly safe within the 91-94 year range. 90 and back was the Renix era and will most likely have some different wiring connections. 95 up will definitely have some different connections due to airbags becoming standard equipment on the XJ. Almost any year would bolt right in, but it's the wiring that puts a limit on your selection.

I have a 91 cherokee with tilt wheel with the wipers and lights on it so I would have to get one that has all that?

I figured the columns themselves were all the same throughout the years as far as bolting up, my worry was on the wiring and plug ins. thanks for the info, ill make sure today i track down a '91 to '94 for a donor.

I would rate it as easy/moderate due to all of the wiring connections and the partial disassembly of the dash.

Changing the colum is very easy,all you need to do is remove nut and bolt at steering box,11mm nut,it only goes in one way,remove 13mm bolts inside against firewall under dash,and two 15mm under dash connected to frame,do not remove the 4 13mm attached to colum,them disconnect the dimmer switch,ign switch,turn signal wiring,and wiper delay module. takes about an hour to switch out. 87-94 will work
