5W30 and 10W30 are the same vis (30) at normal operating temp. 5W will flow quicker to engine parts than 10W when below operating temp.

So really, 5W30 is generally slightly better for your engine.

djb, You live in the south, up north we worry about starting at 10 below. That's why we want 5w when we start, but you know that.

yeah we had a little cold snap up here and my engine ran like it was filled with syrup when it was cold, (also about 7k on the oil), put in the 5w and made a world of difference with cold starts

Re-read post #8 and Motor Oil 101. I use 0WXX year round. Has nothing to do with winter/summer....it has to do with better flow at below normal operating temp. I consider below normal operating temp as anything below 180......I'm weird like that.
