Can I take the exhaust manifold off without taking the intake off?

Can I take the exhaust manifold off without taking the intake off?
I know they use the same bolts and same gasket but I wanna know if the intake will stay in place if I remove all the bolts.
And if so, should it seal back up when I bolt the exhaust manifold back on?
I need to drop the exhaust off to finish welding the manifold. I got most of it welded with it still on but I can't get all the way around it.
It was cracked all the way around where the 2 pipes tie together before it goes down to the doughnut gasket.
It is a 98 Cherokee.
