Default Bypassing A/C Compressor with new serpentine belt

I have a '94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a crapped out A/C Compressor. has almost 190,000 miles and dont want to spend $1200 to fix it. Have been told that I can bypass the compressor by changing serpentine belt to Jeep belt for '94 Grand Cherokee made without A/C. Anyone ever done this. I found a belt at local parts store for '94 without A/C, but was curious if it'll work. Thanks!!

I have no idea, but depending on the path you might be able to run a shorter belt to bypass it, usually most vehicles do this to not have to completely redesign the belt path or implement another idler pulley

The best way would be to get an AC by-pass pully. I did this on my XJ and it works great. And you use the same belt. I got mine from Summit or Rock Auto, can't remember which one. Doing it as you mentioned, you might have to change every thing over from a non AC Jeep, which is a pain in the butt. However,I'm not %100 sure. The AC by-pass pully was under $40.
