broke my hood cable
so yesterday I go to buy my jeep from the previous owner, and he was doing some final cleanup and whatever, and he went to open the hood and the cable broke right at the handle! luckily he was able to put a vice grip on it so it can still be opened if need be
I don't want to get a replacement from a dealer, you know they mark stuff up like crazy
where's the best place to get a replacement?

Crown and we have a supplier in the Vendors section Gerr Offroad. E-mail him and you will get a quote pretty fast so you can compare it to the stealership.

Long arms and about an hr or so of struggling and cut fingers and managed to reach up an manually release it at the front where the cable connects at the hood release mechanism.

I can't release mine that way b/c my arms are toooo short. I had to get a buddy to cut the crap outa his hands to do it for me. I have been thinking about making a hood release tool.

Mine broke at the hood latch. This is how I opened my hood.
There are two bolts that attach each of the hood strikers to the radiator core support in the body. If you remove these two bolts on each of the strikers, the hood can then be opened with the strikers still attached to the latch mechanisms.
The two bolts are accessed BEHIND the headlight. One must remove the headlight trim, headlight bulb, and headlight bulb mounting bracket, commonly called the headlight "bucket". Once all of this is out of the way, then there is one bolt that faces forward on the front side of the core support and a second bolt that faces downward (and is reached through an opening in the core support bracket, as it's on the INSIDE of the bracket.

thankfully I won't have to resort to any of that, since my cable broke right at the handle . . . I'll just have to feed the cable up through the firewall and attach it
