brake light switch?
So I googled what the brake light switch looks like so I can replace it from one at the WY but it looks like there's two on the pedal. Neither of them look like the ones online. Mine has a vacuum line going to it if that is the brake light switch, the one located lower than the one with the vacuum line is attached to the part where the pedal arm connects to the rod to the mastercylinder. The issue I'm having with the switch is that I have to press really hard to get it to work so when I'm slowing down to come to a stop the lights don't light up until I am fully stopped and then they light up. Sometimes they don't at all. Any input?

Before you buy one check yours out. From what you say, It sound like yours is sticking. You may just have to pull it off and clean it up. They can get dirty and not allow it to pop open when you push on the peddle.

Have to say this again. all Jeeps are not the same.......
From Joe Peters and well stated. Sounds harsh but just makes sense:
"Let’s play a game.
You pretend that you are the only one that knows what year/engine, etc that you are asking about.
We will all pretend you never asked a question until you provide at least the bare minimum of information about your vehicle".

No problem, my 1989 Jeep Cherokee Limited (has cruise control) auto 4.0 I6 4 door has a brake light prblem. It only works when the brake pedal is pressed about 60% of its travel downward. Recently it has stopped working altogether so this afternoon I went to my local wrecking yard and pulled out what I believe is the brake light switch from an identical jeep. Same year, options even color. The switch I think is the correct one is white and mounts quite high on the pedal assembly, it has two wires that plug into it and a vacuum line. The switch it an opaque white. I replaced the switch and the brake lights still do not work. All of my DRL's (daytime running lights) work including the rears. My dashlights do not light up when the brake pedal is pressed. And the fuse under the dash is ok. Another problem is the hazards and blinkers stopped working. They would light up but not flash so I went to autozone and picked up 2 new flashers and theycompletely stopped working, so I put the old ones back in and they still don't work. That fuse is fine aswell. If I need to provide anymore information please feel free to ask.

That is the cruise control cut-off switch. Look up above near the pivot point of the clutch pedal for the brake light switch itself. Nice post BTW!!!

Clean it or replace it.. either way, it has to be adjusted properly for it to work. At 'rest' the brake arm holds it 'in' and as you press the pedal, it should come 'out'. You'll see the ratchet-like adjustment on the mount if it's like my '93.

I now have a day to devote to the brake light switch, can anyone please post a picture of the switch so I can mess with it? I googled it but everything they show looks nothing like what's in there.

So I have beenn messing with the car and now my hazard lights work flawlessly lol. My brakelight issue seems to be that the switch my need an adjustment maybe? It seems loose but I see no way of tightening it or shimming it. If I push the switch up, the brake lights lite up. When I push the brake pedal nothing happens.

So I've googled how to adjust it but I'm still not finding this plunger that I'm supposed to pull on. The only thing that looks like it could be it is entomed in stamped steel and its pretty hard for me to get my sausages around it. Anyone done this adjustment before? I used search and only came up with a page of threads with maybe 3 threads relavent to what I was looking for.
