90 XJ Front Universal Joints
I need to replace the front universal joints on my 90xj. The fsm that I have says a special tool is required to do this, but doesn't elaborate. Could someone shed some light on this for me and if possible point me to a fsm for the 90xj limited?

I didn't see a special tool mentioned when replacing the u-joints. Just a vise and a couple of sockets. Some folks use a ball joint press or really large c-clamp.
What FSM do you have? Is it a Haynes or Chiltons?

The manual I have is: **1984-1993-factory-service-manual.pdf. I used to have a Haynes manual that I tossed because the only detail it had was for a motor tear down. Everything else was so vague as to be practically useless.

Not as easy as some make it seem. Every job is different. I recommend looking up u-joint replacement videos on Youtube for a visual. Plenty of XJ how-tos there. I watched a couple as there are different methods. I used a balljoint press in a bench vice, along with a hammer. Lots of cursing, but i got it done.

Yeah, I've found a couple of posts on here that help. I know I have the work cut out for me. Thanks. I still need that 1990 FSM.

There is a special took for u-joints that maybe a dealer has and uses, but nobody else ever uses them. Like others have mentioned, a vise, c-clamp, or ball joint kit can work just fine. I use a c-clamp personally and they are cheap and easy.

I just found an old link to some of Cruiser54's stuff and low and behold there was a 1990 FSM! It looks like it has everything I need. Thank you Cruiser and all.

Glad you have a "real" fsm now,

it's also not a bad time to lock your CAD axle fork, or completely block it off and use a one-piece shaft.
