Stuff is around $10 a can and I wouldn't run my 4.0 w/ 170+ on the clock with out it. (Also recommends extending drain intervals to 5k)
Check them out.

Let me preface by saying I am not trying to start a huge discussion on filters...because we all know there are plenty of threads out there about them.
I bought my Jeep with 126k on it and I ran Fram oil filters with Havoline 10-40 oil and added a quart of lucas every other oil change. My lifters ticked and valves rattled like a diesel. Around 180k someone told me to switch the filters and stop using fram. I now run a K&N filter with everything else the same and have 220k on it and haven't heard the lifters once.
So, IMO no additive in the world is going to make up for a bad/restrictive filter. As added insurance I now run lucas in every oil change and on occasion run seafoam through the intake/gas tank. But nothing made a bigger difference than the filter.

That's why I asked. Because many others have chased noises and knocks only to find out it was the oil filter that Grandpa used for years had failed them.

well, now that I have read everyone's differnt experiences here on the "ol lifter tick" problem, looks like the oil change I am gonna do this weekend is gonna have a new dynamic!
Folks, I have never used and additive, and used the same filter type for years (yeah, yeah, yeah, fram sux yeah yeah), but i never had a problem with it.
However, I have never used the seafoam treatment, the procedure where you let the engine vacuuum take the contents of the can and then you have what appears to be a house fire from all the smoke etc etc.
So here is what I am gonna try ( after 280,000 miles), a new WIX filter, my same valvoline 10w-40 i been running and some of the Lucas, maybe one quart.
the only time i have any lifter tick is when I start up, after about 10 minutes it goes away. I know I have a LOT of gunk buildup in the rocker area, and am concerned that if i do the seafoam treament now I am gonna have a lot more noise and leakdown.
one question, though, in addition to the WIX filter and the Lucas treatment, would use of the seafoam JUST in the gas tank over time clean out the internals slowly? And also how much would I add to the tank, say at a fillup?
appreciate any input, and it was great reading everyone's experience.
Thank you!

Good plan. I wouldn't ever Seafoam my crankcase. I do use MMO in the crankcase though and it's curing my noisy lifter.

I've seen Marvel Mystery Oil pop up a time or two.
I'll add to it. On all my vehicles and friends/relatives vehicles with lifter tick, I use MMO. Success everytime. I use it in the XJ now and then, but the most recent time I actually added the full recommeneded amount (I think it's like 1 quart per 5 qt oil?) before my most recent oil change. Oil came out dark, hopefully a lot of the gunk and sludge in there, and I am now using Rotella T6 Full Synthetic 5w40. I love it, so does the XJ. Even here in VA where it's been getting cold as *****, the Jeep starts up a lot easier and runs quieter AND hasn't burned a drop of oil yet. And after about a thousand miles on the oil, it's still light brown on the stick.
