Best oil additive for 4.0 litre lifter tick??

OK guys, I wanted to poll the experts on this. My XJ had 185K on it when I bought it. Other than a slight lifter tick at idle this thing runs like a Raped Ape. It, now, has 240K and the lifter tick is geting a little more pronounced.

I want to know what you all recommend for an oil additive to quiet the lifters down. I'm gonna get 300K out of this thing so I have time to save up and buy or build a 4.7 stroker.

I have the same issue...I have tried switching from 10w30 to 10w40..Nothing..Tried Risoline Engine additive ....Nothing...There just must be a lifter not pumping up all the way.......making the ticking noise..Im waiting for the HG to blow so i can put in new lifters...other than thatwith 150K she runs STRONG.

Yeah, I figure I have the same issue. I already run 10W-40 High Mileage oil. I was just wondering if there is one of those "Mystery Oil" additives out there that would help out a little. Thanks for the promp reply, Bro.

Buck does that high mileage oil you use have enough ZDDP in it? I use Mobil 1 but add a small bottle of ZDDP to every oil change.

I dump a quart of trans fluid into the crankcase before every oil change, and use a quart of Lucas with every oil change...

I use Castrol High Mileage 10W-40 with a Fram filter. I'm not sure if it has ZDDP in it. I've never heard of the stuff...LOL. I'll have to research that and get back to you. I've heard of Lucas products before. So, that stuff works pretty good then?

mine has 200,000 and lifter is loud im just waitin till it blows upso i can get astroker

I use Lucas in everything... Engine, Trans, Transfer Case, Axles, power steering, Fuel (The specific ones for each, the first 4 are the same one, the last 2 are specific.). I love the stuff. Even used it in the race transmissions and rear ends.
And the trans fluid I add right before I'm gonna change the oil, and do some running around to circulate it and get it all nice and hot, then change the oil. It acts like a poor man's engine flush without killing your gaskets with petroleum distillates.

I use Quaker State 10W-30 High Mileage (w/ Slick 50 additive). 219,000 miles and you can barely hear my lifters.

You can try marvel mystery oil for the tap, it works for me...Tj

4 quarts 10w40 and 2 quarts 20w50..... my freind works at jiffy lube. he helped me find the right combo

Mudallday, Sounds like your buddy is true brother Washington Native Red Neck. Sounds like something I would definitely try to save a buck. I've always been told to never mix oils of different weights, though.This Lucas stuff Bowtieguy is talking about sounds like what I will try...or maybe Slick 50 or Restore. I've heard good things about both of them.

I run 15w-40 diesel oil (well, 5w-30 now bc its cold as hell) with very good results.
