Ayecarumba! Yeah, get all that fixed up. The battery-to-fender cable is normal. Be careful if you replace that, though, as the fender side is just a welded nut. I went to work on mine and ended up breaking the weld. While you're at it check the crappy braid from the engine block to the firewall, can be found in the rear drivers-side corner of the engine. Those things are a copper braid and corrode nice and easy.

Yes. 1991-up XJ has a ground between the battery and the fender sheetmetal - 1990 and earlier grounded the chassis through the engine block (this is one of the very small number of improvements that Chrysler made.)

Cleaned up the terminal and cut back the battery cable and re-attached it, problem solved thanks for the input!

I bought a yellow top a little over a month ago. D34 model I believe. Original price was $200 and picked it up for $145 at AAP website with a coupon code. I also selected to pick it up from the store 15 min later.

I wouldnt spend my money on an optima unless i had a use for it. If you dont have a winch/sound system/lights or some other accessories its kinda unnecessary for the money you spend on it. If it were me and i didnt have any accessories to power... then i'd get a kirkland signature from costco, they'll replace the battery if it fails, no matter the cause. They're damn good batterys and plus they're half the price of a normal battery while. Optimas are great but IMO if you're keeping your jeep stock you dont need it really.

That's a great point. Costco makes good quality stuff. For example, their bottle of Kirkland vodka is the same quality as Grey Goose but for muuuuch cheaper and a bigger bottle I'm just looking for an Optima because I have 6 accessory lights and will be putting in a subwoofer relatively soon here

The braid from the engine block to firewall in my '00 is stainless steel. You might want to upgrade your ground straps....corrosion is murder on grounding straps and wires.
