That kit also includes an isolator so that the second battery charges off the alternator but isn't connected directly to the main battery until you push a switch to join them. That way you don't run down both batteries.

i looked at the air box space but ive got to where i want stuff stock. my mod days are over! trouble enuf fixing stock stuff. the 2 batt setup i did used a big diode to isolate the 2nd batt. it saved me a few times, doors open, lites on while working= dead batt in a short time. i know electric and it surprises me how a few small lites do it! radio can play all day.

i looked at relocating the rad overflo above the starter by the firewall then move fuses slightly for batt space. lots of messing there open to other trouble. i had a 49 ford with batt in trunk with HEAVY cable!! so now, just thinking. still want to check static drain but cold and rainy here. painting inside, keeping warm.

Again, remove the starter, disassemble, and clean it. When I had trouble with the starter on my '00, I did that and solved the problem...for a short while. The brushes were worn out, but the road grime/oil paste inside wasn't doing it any favors either. If it isn't the starter, then you have a bad connection somewhere.

If I understood a couple of your posts correctly, you still have the original battery/starter cables and terminals? I just finished making/installing new 2 gauge cables and military terminals an hour or so ago. Made a difference.
