Default AVG Miles Per Tank

I have a XJ with a broken fuel gauge, and I've been filling it up every 200 miles. Does this seem like a safe bet? Could I go longer you think? I'm not sure if I have a 16 or 20 gallon tank, since I've never put more than like 10 gallons or so in it. I have contemplated just running it out of gas, but I really don't want to do that. So what would be a safe number of miles to fill up at?

Ya its a safe amount to fill up at. On 31's I figure I probably get about 280 out of a tank with a bit to spare. Keep in mind there are 20 gal in the XJ tank.

Driving style contributes to gas mileage. I coast whenever possible and accelerate slower than grandpa.

Holy Mother Of Yall Suck! 30s 2in lift..lucky to get 200. Mostly due to the wind and hills here in WY and CO though. I should do a tune up and a new muffler and some other things probably though..sure that would help.

I mentioned in another thread that your solution is the TPS adjustment. You can do this with a $5 multimeter from Harbor Freight Tools. It is easy and I gave you a link to download several different things you will need to have to properly learn to keep your XJ on the road.

Who you callin Grandpa? I drive slower than my Grandmother and she's been dead over twenty years. Anything to slow the frequency of trips to the gas station.

are you guys correcting for upgraded tire sizes? if you arent youre skewing your miles heavily... i believe xjs are to run 225s, which i believe are 26" tires (maybe 28"?)
