I'm brand new to the forum so hello!! I have a 98 Zj and I have an issue with the wiring on the locks. As I'm driving down the road, all my locks will go wild and flicker on and off. Sometimes it only happens a couple times and others It will last the entire trip. Sometimes it just depends on the day.. Its super random and drives me insane! Should I replace the drivers side door panel or try something else first? Has anyone had that happen before?

Hi,
I have a question that maybe someone would be able to Help me with.

I have a 95 XJ. It's Inspection time again and no reverse lights. Last year and the year before I've been able to wiggle the shifter and eventually get them to come on long enough to get a new sticker. I cant get them to come on at all now.
From what I have read, I am guessing it is the NSS, so I'm going to try to take it off, clean it up, and put it back on.
My transmission went bad a couple years ago and I had one that was supposed to be from a 98 XJ, I had someone put it in for me. Dont remember if I ever had reverse lights before that or not.
I want to locate and price a new NSS before I attempt this incase I break it taking it off or ruin it some other way.
My question is: Do I need to buy one for a 95 or a 98? Or are they the same on both models? The local part store says $220, Amazon $130-$150, and I've seen some on ebay for $30-$40. On Ebay they dont always say which jeep they are for, How would I know if I am ordering the right one? Are there some brands out there that I should stay away from (like Airtex if it was a fuel pump)?

I got one off eBay, needed a replacement after a couple months and they replaced it under warranty and it's been good since.

It's really all going to boil down to which connector you have, man. They attach to the transmission in the same manor, but the pigtails for the NSS were different after 1997... so without further ado:

1987-1996:



1997-2001:



And if you're not going to go with MOPAR, I suggest ordering from Rockauto.com http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/jeep

Dorman is okay, OmixADA is almost as expensive as MOPAR with NONE of the benefit, Airtex I wouldn't touch unless someone was trying to save me from drowning with it, and if you're going to go with Standard Motor Products, stay away from the "T" series

In reality though, it should be fine after you clean it. Just don't forget to liberally apply more dielectric grease before you put it back together.

It's a little disturbing that they're listing those as being for any year grand cherokee BUT '93. Being as that's the only year that came with the AW4

They looked identical to the Rock auto ones and were the same as the stock one it replaced (maybe the connector was a bit plastic-ier). I couldn't get mine off without destroying it. Yay salt baths they call roads.

Not for 94+ ZJs.... that's what I was saying though. '93 was the only year the AW4 came in the ZJs. It was 42re after that.

I have a 86 jeep cherokee chief v6 4x4 but when you switch the swich back to 2x2 it wont swich in to it it does nothing i pulled it all apart and the swich is ran by vacuum lines but i have no clue what to replace first anyone out there

Switch? Should be a lever. All mechanical. Only thing that's vaccuum actuated is the Center Axle Disconnect on the front axle. Sounds like you're missing a transfer case shift linkage.

Nope. '84-86 offered a vacuum 4WD system with a selector switch on the center console.

You may want to consider buying the complete vacuum line harness. Much easier to install.

Just plug it in on the transmission and the front axle.

I wouldn't be surprised if you have other Vacuum issues as well.

Recently acquired 96 xj 4.0 2wd automatic, 145k, shifts fine and fluid level is fine but transmission fluid is almost colorless, slightly golden maybe?, and clear. I have never seen fluid before that was not red. Do I have the wrong fluid in my tranny or should I seek treatment for OCD?

It doesn't always show the red coloring when it's such a thin sheen as on the dipstick

Anyone know where I can find grade 8 rear leaf spring bolts? Or does anyone know what size they are so I can go to the hardware store? Thanks much.
