Quick q. The early XJs like my 91 have equal length parking brake cables, right? With mounts at equal points on each side of the body.

I need new cables, and new ones that will work for my disc conversion. I'm thinking a ZJ passenger side cable, 50 inches.

I've looked but can't find out how to remove/replace the bump stops on the front of a 97 XJ. Seen one video of unscrewing the bottom of the stop with a pipe wrench, but mine are welded where it showed it coming apart. Does the whole thing twist out?

Yes and yes. And there are catalytic converters available via both of those retailers.

Performance curve sells magnaflow though, which I recommend for cat converters. What sound are you looking for? You've posted a night and day difference kit there. The Walker kit comes with a Dynomax Super Turbo that is very quiet. You can hear a slight growl from outside, but hardly anything inside. The Flowmaster Super 40 kit is pretty agressive... inside and out. Not annoying by any means, but if you have no carpet, you're going to have to turn up your stereo pretty loud.

lol... yeah your alternator is TOAST. Only thing, as far as accessories go, that you shouldn't be able to turn by hand is the ac compressor once the clutch is engaged.... and even then, you can still turn it, it's just met with a lot of resistance.

How do I tell which rear end I have? I went on AllData and entered the VIN, and when I brought up the rear diff it showed multiple different ones. Chrysler 8.25, Dana 30, etc..

Need to know because ring and pinion need replaced..I searched and couldnt find a write up for this either on here.

If it said you have a dana 30 & Chrysler 8.25. That's a good combo. Dana 30 is the front and the 8.25 is the rear.

It didn't say which one I had at all. I clicked the option to look at rear only and it gave me a list to choose from.

For example: Front Differential
Rear Differential
(Click the one you need information on)

So I clicked Rear Differential and it brought up something like this below.

Dana 30
Dana 35
(Click the one that is on your vehicle)

No Idea how I find out which one it has. I found this picture. Can anyone confirm if its correct?

So you didn't look at all then because if you would have, you would have easily found it....just like the pic you posted..easily found right?....it's correct by the way....just don't lie and say you searched before your original question hahah . Have a good one man!

You've got a Dana 35

Chrysler 8.25 on the left, Dana 35 on the right. The 8.25's most distinctive feature is the squared-off lip that hangs below the cover.

Yup... that's the turdy-five alright. Don't waste a dime on that thing except for maybe changing out the gear oil. It's not going to break on you unless you lock it - but that's what makes it not worth it to put any money into.

Save up and try to find an 8.25 from a 97+ (has 29 spline, larger-diameter shafts and a slightly beefier carrier), a Dana 44 out of a metric tonne MJ or late 80's XJ (unicorn), or snag a Ford 8.8 rear axle out of an Explorer - be sure to look for one with disc brakes so that's already out of the way for ya... if you can find a v8 model, it may even have Trac Lock on it.

The 8.8 and any axle out of an MJ will require you to cut off the spring perches and weld new ones on.

The XJ d44 and the 8.25 are the most direct bolt-on swap there is.

Being my guess with the D35 you also have ABS brakes, the 8.25 usually does mot have them.?
