Thank you for the reply. I have read other posts that is the solution for Jeeps that stall with normal driving. My Jeep only stalls when off-road and when I am climbing and their is some altitude change. The last time, was Saturday, I was in compound low doing a pretty steep climb. It stalled and I had to wait for 45 minutes before it started. My question, could it be a solenoid in the transmission or a sensor on the transmission?

Default '92 Rear Defroster Relay Photo

I am installing a defrostable window in my '92 XJ that didn't come with it. I have the class, I'm hooking the wires up to the glass. I am installing the switch in the dash to the connectors already there. And I've made sure I have a fuse. Now I hear I need a relay and it sounds like there are a few variations on where this relay is. I'd like to know exactly where it is and what it looks like so I can pull it from my local JY that has three Jeeps in it (including the '92 model where I'm getting my glass from.) Can anyone explain where this relay is any maybe even post a photo? Also: if you think I've missed anythign in my above explanation to make the rear defroster work, please let me know. Thank you so much.

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee inline v6 4.0
Trying too figure out whats exactly wrong with the transmission before replacing it. It has 170000 miles and was ruining fine. Now my car won't shift at all into 3rd or 4th (auto transmission). It goes into drive, park, neutral fine...but in drive 3rd and fourth won't catch at all...need answers fast i usually replace my own parts but i want to know how bad it is first

Welcome to CF!

That's the 42re and 3rd and 4th are electronically shifted so I would suspect the solenoid pack. If it was in "limp" mode, you'd only have 2nd and reverse.

BTW, that's a STRAIGHT 6.

Thank you.

So, it's probably a slightly different design. :-(

I thought maybe I could upgrade my - Twist-On - cap... That one kinda looks like it screws on, Also those elbows look a little more tidy than my 1989 style ... that leak a little oil.

Note: see cap above

My '99 has the plugs under the carpet. IIRC you should be able to bolt up the power seats to the manual rails. I'm using ZJ seats and modding the ZJ brackets to bolt up so not sure on the XJ power seat design. The ZJ power seats bolt to the XJ manual rail. Just a bit too tall for 6'4" me...

Good to know. Kinda thinking I want to turn the seats into manual ones. Power seats are nice but... If the plug does turn out to be there then I will probably start with using them as power seats. Who knows might end up coming to the conclusion that how did I ever live without them. LOL.

Okay here's the skinny on seats. The seat cushion sections bolt to the rails with 4 nuts on studs underneath. All the seats are the same, weither they are power or not. The rail sections are model specific, as in XJ or ZJ are the same, but WJ are different because they changed the floor pan. I have an ZJ driver's seat in my WJ because I couldn't get used to the bucket shape of the original one because on long trips, it pinches the nerves in my hip. My WJ manual rails bolted to the XJ seat no problem. Because of the position of those nuts, I recommend taking the whole seat out rather than stand on your head trying to reach them.

Found out how good I am at working on brakes. The Jeep's grabbers saved me from a red light camera violation and left a couple pretty marks after the smoke show for my fellow travelers.

My question* does anyone have a vidya of how a miss sounds in our HO 4.0? My exhaust is kind of "skipping" at the tail pipe and my mpg's haven't been that great lately.

Where's a good place to get an PCM? None of the wrecking yards have 97+ XJ's.

The CCV elbows on mine twist on and off - I think it's like a 90 degree notch or something like that. I can't remember correctly, but I THINK you can use this style on the Renix heads. Not positive though.

I have searched and reviewed several sources but I am still confused...

Question: Will a 4.0L from a 1995 Wrangler YJ retrofit into a 1993 Cherokee (motor mounts, accessory mounts, etc. are same..?)?
