That's it? Looks like its been sitting for awhile lol and it looks like he stored a bunch of stuff in there! Lol yeah either full blown trail rig or parts. Trying to fix it all up would be too costly.

His sister put all that in there last month lol. And not really. Problably only cost $100 in parts for it to be driveable mechanically. New steering coulum and seat.

I can buy it for $400. I was talking to the owner and he said he wanted $600 but " i know thats kind of unreasonably high"

I about crapped myself.

I told him after my VW sells ill give him $400 and he agreed.

My plans, if i buy it, are to clean it inside and out, trim fenders, my old tires from my 98, welded spiders, and lots of JY upgrades and stuff.

Simple questions, hopefully simple answers:

How do I test my 4H and 4L to ensure that they are properly functioning?

How do I know I'm back in 2H after testing?

Thanks in advance for your kind help.

Go off roading! As for 2h I always give it enough gas to spin the tires and see.

Easiest way is to put both axles up on jackstands, get all four tires off the ground, and start her up. Shift to 4H and see if your fronts are spinning, then shift back to 2H and see if they stop.

This is how I usually do it.

On pavement:

Shift into 4H. Drive in a large circle. You'll feel the front end wanting to bind. That tells you that you're in 4wd High.

Shift to 4L. You'll have the same effects but the engine RPM will be higher while traveling the same speed.

Shift back into 2wd. You should be able to drive in a tight circle without binding.

Thank you. Any suggestions for getting out of 4H if I've pushed the lever all the way back up to 2H after testing and it still feels like I'm in 4H?

Or like they said... go to your ex-wifes house. Park in the front yard. Put your Jeep in 2h and mash the gas. Only the rear will spin.

4H now. Mash the gas and you should take off and not spin.

4L now. Mash the gas and it'll throw you against the seat.

2H again. Mash the gas and get the hell out of there before the cops get there.

Anyone know the size and thread pitch of the 4wd sensor on a 231 tcase is?

I thinks its the 4wd sensor. The one on the front of the case by the front output shaft.

I'm swapping a sealed output for a non sealed output, I gotta plug that sensor hole as its not used...
