We decided to buy a ZJ specifically for a toy but after thinking about it, we know were going to get ours almost submerged in mud and water, and I'm not looking forward to moldy carpet smell after awhile

Has anyone completely ripped out the carpet and just bed lined the inside? I know it'll be one loud mfer but this already loud to begin with.
Thoughts on this? I don't want to have to deal with the smell of moldy interior and if its going to get basically submerged each time...what's the point of carpet?

so blew a rod in my 2000 Cherokee, neighbor gave me a unassembled crate motor casting number is 1988 block, I can make everything fit but have a question about the cam shaft, my other blocks have a camshaft retainer, this bock has the spring and pin, type but missing the washer anyone have specs on it, mopar no longer sells it, or know of a place where I can find one

Does anyone know what these things are, they are on the frame above the leaf springs and are completely rusted out. Sorry about the mud I went wheeling the other day.

Those used to be the bumpstops for your rear axle. They limit vertical travel so the suspension doesn't compress too far and damage your shocks or tires

On my XJ, it has the over head console with the little digital display. The outside temp reading is not even close to accurate. Does anyone know where the outside temp sensor is located?

I know this to be true for 97-01. It's behind the front bumper but not sure of 96 and below

2001 XJ, rusted vent lines from fuel pump to canister, messed up vent hose to filler cap. Code for evap leak.

Is it normal/expected for the purge solenoid to be REALLY loud? I noticed a rhythmic knocking asynchronous to engine speed from inside the cabin and traced it to that.

Got it figured out. Crawled under there and I could see the sensor. For some reason it was zip tied right next to the fan shroud. It was probably reading some of the heat off the fan. Moved to the bumper. Will test tomorrow.

Hi All. Some time ago I had found email and phone number (i think) contact information for FCA some where on the Cherokee Forum site. I have now misplaced this information and haven't had any luck searching for it in the Forum (probably operator error on my part). I had used it to obtain valuable build and other information for my 2001 Cherokee Limited with great success. Quick note: Back in 2015 (post 49671) I asked which shifter handle fits the Cherokee XJ automatic transmission shift lever.

I finally found one (I'm driven) on Amazon.

It cost 27 bucks, but it fits perfectly. It's a universal fit with different sized sleeves depending on what car you have, but on a Cherokee it fits so well you barely have to tighten the set screws.

It doesn't get a lot of good reviews, but it fits and looks great on my beast.

I just wish it was grey instead of black.

Yeah dude. Lots of people have. I have an XJ rather than a ZJ, but I haven't had carpet on the floor of mine for a few years. The noise isn't the killer though... it's the heat during the summer. May or may not be an issue wherever you live though. DD'in a Jeep with no carpet in Florida in the Summer kinda sucks though. I'll bedline it one day.

I don't know about REALLY loud, but I have heard people say they can hear a rythmic noise coming from the solenoid.

Slightly off topic, but I've got a pinhole leak in my air compressor tank. What would you guys do to fix it? Tack a little weld in there? JB weld? Trying to limp this thing along for another year. Thanks

The plastic plug that goes to the oil pressure sensor on my 96 xj 4.0 is damaged, but I can't find a replacement part anywhere. Some sources have a part they call a connector for the "oil pressure switch," but it can't be the right thing because it has 2 wires, and mine has only one. Any ideas?
