Question about replacment Ball Joint
I just got my first xj (1996) and I took it up to the local tire guy and got the tires balanced and had a guy look at the front end allignment and he said I need a new upper ball joint on the passenger side. He said it would cost about $250 for the part, labor, and to get it alligned. Does that seem like a pretty fair price? Seems high to me...but idk

thats about right parts labor and align. you could do it yourself with a ball joint press. ball joints are pretty rare to go bad on jeeps.

Im still in highschool and we have a vocational school right next door and they said they would do it for just the price of the part. No labor or allignment charge...BUT it would be highschool students doing the work...lol

I had that happen on my 90 xj and then I could not find the problem, then I realized he must have been talking about my sway bar link quick disconnect. As I had rigged a bolt and washers to it to make my wife happy till i fixed it. Come to find that had exactly 1/2 inch play which is what he said my upper ball joint had.
