anybody try making soft doors?
just curious if any of you have done it because this is my summer project which is a loooong one.
old pic:
ive been rained on about 3 times with the doors off..no damage to anything in the interior but id like some doors i can throw in the back and when it starts to rain, i can just pull over and throw em on with no troubles.
so if you got em post em up..i have yet to see anyone make soft doors for their xj and im still trying to figure out how to get the angles and everything but they hopefully wont take to long.

Never thought about it but now that you bring it up a 1" square tube is easy to form into the shape of the door and you could cover that with canvas and convertible top window plastic so the majority of wind and rain would remain outside the Jeep. They could also be made to sit and hinge on what part of the OEM hinge that you left for your factory doors. Yours may be a little more cumbersome in that you have a 2 door.

I was thinking about making soft doors for my jeep too. Ive heard the YJ soft doors will work for a 4 door if you modify the hinge, but I have 2 door so that doesnt really help unless you take the hardware and extend the fabric.

This guy on my local forum did a set of soft doors from scratch pretty nicely:

And it was Incredible Hulk on NAXJA that did the half hard doors with "soft uppers":
Hope that helps.

That gives me great idea. at my dad's work they use Lexan Polycarbonate. I'ts this super tough bullet proof plasitc that's fairly easy to bend with a lot of heat. I should make a set for my 4 door, they'd look wicked and and they wouldn't break if I smahed them into a tree or something while trail riding.
