Another Turn Signal Problem
Hey guys...
I've got an '89 XJ... My problem is that the right turn signal and hazards stop flashing after the brake pedal is depressed. I have already replaced the flasher relay and, although the flash count is higher, it still doesn't solve the problem.
What I've noticed:
When the brake pedal is depressed:
Right Turn signal stops flashing
Hazards stop flashing
Brake lights and Ambers are illuminated
When the brake pedal is released:
Right Turn signal continues flashing
Hazards continue flashing
Tail lights are on when lights are on/ off when they're not (Normal config.)
Obviously, these are all at different times, i.e. the turn signal is separate from the hazards, and the ambers illuminate at all times whenever the brake pedal is depressed.
I haven't seen any other post that would help me out, as they're all a bit different. What I'm guessing is that there's a bad ground somewhere in or around the brake pedal switch. Any opinions on that?
Thanks!

Sorry, Lunger. I haven't found out the exact fix for this problem, yet. But, what I'm leaning towards is the wiring harness in the steering column itself. I was talking to a friend of mine and he suggested that the steering column be replaced entirely. It's a lot easier to replace it than to replace the wiring harness wrapped around the inside of the column. So, I have to find the time to do it, and price out my options. :-) When I figure out how to do it, I'll let you know and post pics!

Check the grounds, then see if they have fuses for those lights. If the grounds and fuses are great, check the headlamp switch. I know sometime they can control some of those things. I had to rewire the brake pedal switch on my old 89.

And I think your's has the yellow box that say AMC. I can't remember if that is the cruise control. Check all the connections.

Wish I could check it. I would use a volt meter and test things. Check the fuse, flasher, bulb. Not that, then check the switches. Check to see if the line is hot when u operate what is wrong.
