Default Ambient Temp Sensor location

I have a 98 limited w/ the overhead console. The exterior temp is wrong. I think that I need to replace the ambient air temp sensor, but have no idea where to find it. Anyone else know where it is?

if its the same as a 91 its in the middle crossbar just in front of the radiator on the bottom look like a rifle bullet with a wire attached to it

it gets lots of heat from the engine so they are not that accurate

It def goes up sitting in traffic but think its fairly accurate when you're moving.

Just kneel down in front of your XJ.
Look between the bumper and the grille.

You will see it in the center.

To access it, simply reach up from underneath

My amb. temp sensor had the mounting part of it broken off, so it's just dangling. I've got a new one, and know generally where it's supposed to go, but can't figure out how its supposed to be mounted.

Any chance anyone could snap a quick picture and help me locate it? Thanks!

SC = Short-Circuit. A short or crossed wires.
OC = Open-Circuit. Broken or cut wire.

Could it be the sensor? Never had a problem before till today when I tried to see the temp since it was hot here in Arizona everything reads fine just the temp doesn't. Do you know the location where it goes?

The temp sensor is behind the front bumper, mounted on the radiator support.
Being a SC, look for a chaffed wire.
May have to use a meter to check for continuity between the plug for the sensor and the overhead console.

Glad to see this info is recent as I just this weekend pulled an ohc from a 99 and will be installing it on a 2000. I didn't know about the sensor so I hope it is still there when I get back to jy. I think as my headliner needs reclothed I might just pull the one outta the jy one and redo it redo it so I don't have to cut mine up. I will see about the harness running down to the glove box also ..but that might be the harness I cut off in the overhead during removal. I am still not clear where the ccd buss harness comes from? Did you guys get yours installed?

Default Not mine

Overhead gradually went out & is now dark. Pulled the grill & the temperature/compass sensor isn't there. Any other ideas for a '91?

On my 1996 the temp sensor is behind the bumper. Look up from the bottom, between bumper and air dam. The compass will be part of the overhead computer board.
