I've just come into a 96 4.0 cherokee and I'm trying to get an extra keyfob but I'm not sure that it has a factory alarm fitted.

The keyfob is a two button type from Code Alarm. It opens the locks, turns on the interior light and disarms the alarm. The alarm arms itself if you exit the car or push the arm button.

It has a dedicated bullhorn style speaker under the hood to make the sound. Is this right - it looks a bit home made?

I would have thought that a factory alarm would have used the jeeps own horn and would have had jeep branded keyfobs.

Can anyone shed some light before I spend a fortune having a jeep dealer tell me he cant do it because its non standard.

It's aftermarket.

Contact Code Alarm and buy a couple of replacement remotes... see if they will send programming instructions to "synch" your new remotes to the alarm.
