99 xj no crank no start
Alright so I've been around the forum for a while but I've never had to really post a thread yet as I've just found most of my minor issues by just searching them up. This is my first post so bear with me if it is not it the right place or whatever. On to my issue, went to get gas Monday morning (low on fuel if it matters) filled it up and it wouldn't start. All dash lights work, radio works, led lights work, just no response when cranked. Was towed home and sat until Tuesday night when I started searching around and figured the nss was the culprit, it was taken out and cleaned and yet still nothing. Tonight (Wednesday) the starter was removed and taken down to advance auto parts and was tested good. Well I've been searching around and I cannot really find anything else on what it could possibly be, but I figure that it could possibly be either the battery or maybe even the ignition switch? Could it still possibly be the nss? Anything would help at this point.

The starter solenoid has one small stud, and two large studs. Put a voltmeter on the small stud (other side on a good ground) and measure for power while somebody turns the key. If you get ignition power then something is wrong with the starter or solenoid (or maybe the battery). If you don't get ignition power then start working backwards through starter relay, NSS, ignition key cylinder, etc.

There is a box under the dash on the steering colum that has a rod that moves when you turn the key. It might have got loose. That makes contact and sends current to starter.

Alright so an update. Took the battery into advanced and it was good but needed a charge. The guy at advanced made a suggestion that it could be the starter relay as he has owned a couple of XJs himself and he's run into starter problems with them before. Went home and put the battery back in, swapped the cooling fan and starter fuze, fired up for the first time in days with no problem. Drove it to school today fine then after school (now) it won't start up AGAIN. Swapped the fuzes around and nothing again, had a friend try to jump me and still nothing. As I am waiting for a tow truck does anyone have an idea of what could possibly be causing this?

Neutral Safety Switch? Put the Jeep in Neutral and then try to crank it. If it gets worse than that , turn key forward , or 12V to IGN and bump the starter. That should move you in a better direction.
