99 XJ ignition cylinder removal issue??...
I'm replacing my ignition cylinder and the cylinder won't release entirely. It will move out of the column about an inch or so and then hangs up on something. Everything I've read says that it should come right out. No joy. Is there a trick I'm missing? Key in the run position, depress the release from below and it'll slide out only partially...

I'll answer my own question. Apparently, my 99 is a bit different from the videos I've watched. No way it can be removed without taking off the plastic shrouds which surround the column. There is a black plastic bezel that fits around the cylinder housing that prevents the cylinder's removal. Once I found how it was secured to the housing, I released it and the cylinder came right out. It's amazing what one discovers when you can actually see what you're working on. My flashlight was the ticket to success.....
