I have a 98 xj, and I reciently found a local guy that was parting a 99+ motor and is willing to sell the manifold to me for $25! How could I say no? My question is how do I install it? This is my first engine mod, and would like to get it right the first time. After searching briefly, I was unable to find any tutorials. In addition to the manifold itself, do I need anything else? I have seen things about brackets and injectors...ect, or are those for older models? As I mentioned above, this is going on a 98 motor.

I dug around and found these links on other forums, but nothing is very specific. I am guessing since I have a 98 that I am not going to need to worry about buying new brackets. I just might have to extend some vaccume lines. Other than that, it seems to be pretty much a bolt on type deal.

The only real question now, is should I use the injectors off the 99+ IM, or should I just use the existing ones I have now and mayber replace the o-rings on them?

I am in the process of this same mod on my 98 zj. the 96-98 injectors have a higher poundage than the 99-01 so stick with your originals

So I just got my 99+ intake back from my friend that sand blasted it...looks newer then new. I was showing it to another Jeep owner that tells me "That thing won't give you any power...you just wasted time and money." He sites an article in a recent JP magazine, an article I cannot find. Reportedly they dyno tested common "power myths" and found this intake to be a non-gain. Anyone know what he is talking about? Anyone agree? Anyone who has done it have any comment?

The article he is talking about was on "cold air intakes" not intake manifolds..They were discussing the advantages of removing the stock air filter box and putting on a tubed style filter...But even that article didnt say it was a complete waste of time..Just that the power gains from that alone werent worth worrying about on newer Jeeps (Which already have the new design intake manifold)...Now on an older model Jeep (Pre 99) by adding a cold air intake AND upgrading the intake manifold you will get a noticable power increase and an increase in mpg

(Vaxjcoutry) the article is in JP Magizine page 60 4.0 liter myths and legends. cai are decent add on, throttle body spacers (junk), larger throttle body (junk), hotter spark (junk),head swaps unless too a better built head aftermarket (false),cat back (good),header(good),forced induction(false),intakes(false) all this has been dyno tested out of JP Magazine page 60. maybe some other guys should start too read unless they have tons of money LOL, good luck this all in the november issue of JP Magazine page 60 good luck.

lol what? Forced induction "false"? Did you just say that a supercharger or turbocharger will not make more power? I need to get a copy of this months JP mag and see for myself.

My Jeep has a high flow exhaust and I plan on boring the T/B if I do the intake. As for a cold air, I'm worried about dirt and such so I am going to do a tractor air canister and a cowl induction.

lol whatever its there article they tested it,not me dont have one dont what one way too much other stuff to change too see any difference i would think, last time i new power didnt just come in one box.

and yes it would be a good idea too read it before going off. like i said ther mag they do it for a living not me. still good luck.

high quality cold air like k and n airid etc have a filter just as good as a factory flat filter so should be ok you can also get the foam wraps that cover the filters for better filtration good luck.

it is literally bolt-on on a 97+ model. use everything that's on your 97 manifold.


for the actual swap and instructions on how to do it, go get yourself a haynes manual.

I am running the 99 on my 97, I also have a jeeperscreepers TB, I believe its 60mm and borla header. I can say it seems to be a power increase But I still havent regeared the diff. yet. still have 3.73. I think when I get 4.11 gears I will definitely feel it in the a$$ometer.
