Thanks a lot!
So, when you test the #11, 12 and 13, you use positive lead, and negative to a ground? Do you do the test with key on or off? As you can tell I am not too gifted when it comes to electrical wiring/testing/diagnosing..
Thanks again. I had P0700, P0740, and P0743, replaced the TPS. Everything was ok for 120 miles and CEL came back on. Now P0700 and P0743, and car won't shift to OD. I may get the TPS replaced under warranty but I am wondering about the solenoids.

Update - again
I adjusted the TV cable, did nothing else, and for now the shifting is perfect.
By the way, do the adjustment of the TV cable have anything to do with the oil pressure gauge behavior? It is now ready more or less and fluctuating between 10 to 40 and slightly above whereas it was very often staying at 10. The oil pressure gauge light lately would come on and stay on until some kind of acceleration..Very erratic.

Yes. Negative to ground, TCU unplugged, ignition off, and meter set to Ohms. As far as TV cable, no. It has no impact on your oil pressure gauge.

Po743 transmission converter clutch lockup solenoid electrical issue
98 Jeep Cherokee AW-4, 4.0L
Disconnect black, almost round, 7 wire connector in engine compartment near tranny dipstick. The white wire with black stripe pin should check 11-15 ohms. If not look for wiring issue between the pin and the solenoid. The solenoid part # is 5016121AA, OEM $ 168 online dealership.
The pins beside that one, tannish with white stripe and bluish with white stripe are the other two solenoids and they also should check 11-15 ohms. Check them for the heck of it while you got your head in there.

Well the codes came back today after about 400 miles of fine driving. I had quite a long drive to do on the freeway and it was not fun.. I lost the OD while driving at 60-65. Then a little later first 3 gears were shifting but at higher rpm. I felt the car was starting to "suffer". Also as the idle started getting erratic. Not too bad but still, unusual enough to be noticed. Wondering if that is related at all or if my distributor is going out. I have a new one that I meant to install several months ago because the current one is noisy when cold in the morning. Anyway, I bought another TPS since the new one is under warranty, just in case, and I will test the solenoids at the harness.

Same problem
I am having the same problem with my Cherokee. It does not shift into OD and is throwing the same codes. I even had the same pinched lines from the bozo that owned it before me. I was wondering if the solenoid fixed it or not?

Cant figure out how to start a new post but im having a similar problm with my 2000 cherokee sport which is also the aw4. Except my overdrive only works when it feels like it. When it works it works fine. It has to have something to do with the ignition or something along the lines. When it doesnt work it doesnt even try to shift into od. And when it doesnt i just shut it off and restart. 99% of the time it causes the od to work again. Someone help. Its almost every other time its started. Like if i go to work and od works when i get off to come home it doesnt. Im at total confusion and no trans shops have been any help.

Does your Check Engine light ever come on? Have you tried to get codes from a code reader?

Nope its never came on once since ive owned it. Ive had it now mabey six months. Its worth a shot to have it scanned and see if anything pops up. I was thinking of pulling the trans pan and playing with it to see if the lockup solenoid is getting power every time its started or just every other time. Which is what it seems like. Theres alot of ideas in that link. I already changed the brake light switch when i lost all my running lights. Connecters corroded on driver and passenger side at the same time. Ill post back when ive resolved this issue. Almost bought another trans but i think its something way more simple.

Hi,
to my mind this thread describes perfectly how to check solenoids:
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/cod...lenoid-189744/
My 99 XJ had the P0743 code as well, but the OD worked as it should. All the tests were ok, but the check engine light came up frequently. I changed all three solenoids, but nothing changed, OD still worked well but check engine light came up again, code P0743! I was so nerved that I disconnected check engine light in the dash and connected it to check gauges, now both disappear after start !
I bought this solenoid kit, Toyota uses exactly the same in their Aisin transmissions:

Cheers

Well i broke down and had it scanned. Has NEVER thrown a check engine light but i have three 02 sensors i need to replace and more importantly it has a code for "transmission range sensor" which comes down to NSS. Hopefully thats it. The reverse lights havnt worked since i purchased the jeep. Its never had problems trying to start but that doesnt mean the NSS isnt going bad. If theres ever going to be strange isses trust me, theyll happen to me. I believe it was code P075? Im going to tear into it hopefully this weekend and get this issue resolved.
