Default Removing A Transfer Case?

I need some help removing my transfer case. I have both the shafts out, the linkage out, and that's it. I need to have this thing finished by Friday.

Anyways, the current case is a NP242. I have another NP242 with a RE HNT on it that i'm swapping in. My case is actually shot so i have to replace it either way.

My current problem is HOW THE HELL do i get those bolts out? Socket? Open end? Secret method? Any tips?

Also on the front driveshaft side there is like this guard thing and i can't see any of the bolts on that side. What is that thing and how do i get rid of it?

Are these even the right bolts i'm looking at? Also will my rough country crossmember get in the way? (i've heard bad things about them.)

I think i need to drop the crossmember. How do i do this? Do i need a floorjack to support it when i remove the bolts for it or what? How far down should i let it drop?

Look close at the top of the picture. You can see two bolt heads or nuts or whatever they are.

Drop the tcase down. Use a jack of some sort, supporting the trans pan, make sure everything is disconnected and drop it, you may have to pull your aux fan and mech fan. But you can drop it enough to get a wrench up there, a ratcheting wrench makes it easier.

Do you mean drop the tranny down and not the t-case?

the aux fan and the mechanical fan in the front of the engine bay? That sounds a bit extreme if you are referring to those fans.

How far down do i have to drop my tranny?

I don't have a measure but I dropped it enough both time I've done it to get an ratcheting wrench up in there.

You may not have to remove the fans. But mine weren't on at the time. I'd imagine it'd be the first to touch. Removing them isn't that hard.

I think (the power steering pump), will move away from the Efan, but yea, I'd be careful that the lower 1/2 of the mechanical fan doesn't kill the radiator. It was last century. I don't remember if the exhaust was an issue or not...

Holy mother of god you guys made it sound easy.

"Oh it's just six bolts".

Yeah, it's six bolts ONCE YOU REMOVE THE OTHER 20 BOLTS TO GET TO THOSE SIX. Haha.

Any easy ways to put the new one back in?

I snapped off the bolt holding the transmission gasket to the crossmember. It's stuck inside. What should i do about that? Picture shows which bolt i broke off. One came out one broke off. (thing on the right.)

Oh, and before i removed the case i heard this noise coming from the jeep. I think my transfer case actually imploded as i'm not sure what else could make this noise. Seems to get worse when slowing down to a stop, or starting from a dead stop. Turning also seemed to get it to slightly make the noise.

Typically yes. I run 4* ones. You will need new center pins too, typically the the stud won't fit into the leaf perch without new pins.

How bad will it be if I drive without them? I need to drive like 350 miles this weekend. I can't get them shipped to my house in that amount of time. Will it be disastrous?

How will that help? The bolt is still stuck in the jeep. Looks bad too. Basically looks like all rust holding it in.

Well out to the garage with a drill and an easy out. Three bolts total snapped off so i'm hoping i can extract them all.

I have another question. I looked at both of the cases and realized that the sensors have different plugs and are in different locations. What do i do about this?

First picture shows my old case with a plug right above the paddle shifter and a another one to the right of that.

Second picture shows the case i'm swapping it for and it has both of the plugs in the same spot. Ideas?
