Default 97-01 parts on pre 97 XJs

Ok this is something I've been looking up and cann't seem to find, But will the Hatch on a '97-'01 fit on a Pre-'97 XJ? What mods to do it or is it a bolt on?

See I'm looking into getting a '93 2 door, but I like the steel hatch on the newer ones. I'll also be doing either a Newer Grill setup or one off a older Waggy XJ. Just want something a bit different.

Thanks for any and all help..

I can't remember if the mounts on my 87 were the same as my 01. I'm sure they would be in the same place, but obviously the tail lights wouldn't line up, and the older bumper wouldnt either. I'm sure it would just bolt up though if the mounts were the same.

Tail lights no prob, I'll be building Steel boxes for flush mount lights(LED style), and I'll be building custom steel bumpers..

Well sounds like it shouldn't be a problem then. I would just check the mounts and then you'll be good to go. Sounds like a cool project.

OK I need pics of older and newer XJ gates(front side and rook line) along with the hinges. Measurements between the hinges would also be helpful..

Sorry to burst your bubble but I think the mounts for the steel vs the fiberglass hatch are completely different. Mounting spots are different shape is slightly different. I thought I wanted one of the newer ones on my '90 b/c I wanted the third brake light. Everyone I spoke to showed me the error of my thoughts.
Search the subject out at a pick n pull and prove me wrong please b/c I still want that brake light.

Send you some pictures of my old stuff if you will tell me what a rook line is?

I also think they are different, best bet is to check out the mounts yourself and see what modifications are necessary.

Check out the hatch off of a 96.They had the third brake light and were fiberglass.I think 90 and 96 were the same body styles.

Thanks I thought that they started with the new body style in '97. I will look into it.
