Default 96 cherokee wont start

I have a 96 jeep cherokee that wont start. i was driving it one day and it jus died. i tried replacing the crank shaft sensor and it didnt work. i tested the nss by using a jumper wire and didnt work. i replace coil and distrubitor which didnt fix my problem. i found a green and orange wire that runs to the coil ads relay, injectors, computer, and o2 sensors. i can run a wire from the battery to that green and orange wire and it will start fine. when i drive it sorta skips like i have bad gas. i go out today and it wont start at all. i neeeedd help please.

I'm just learning here but maybe can help get started. First, the NSS might just keep it from cranking. I'm assuming your Jeep is cranking but not starting.
"check engine" light, codes?
Did you pull a spark plug, ground it and check for spark?
Do you hear the pump run when you turn the key ON.

Also you can swap the ASD relay. I think on yours the one in front of it is the AC clutch.

Also I believe it has a fuse. I believe that circuit powers things like the 02 heaters which have wires both near the manifold, and running back to the rear 02 which can short out and blow that fuse.

it is cranking but not starting. there is no check engine light on. i have check for spark and have some. i do hear the pump. i switched the relay with the ac one and it didnt help. i do no tht the wire tht runs by the manifold was burnt but i tape it up so there was no exposed wire. mayb that triped a fuse. do you no where that fuse is.

I am guessing from something I saw before, in the box #17? #14? Not sure, but if you have spark that might be OK. If you have a nice crisp blue spark, and it's cranking well, gotta suspect fuel. Easiest way is to try some starting fluid. Also you can press the little deal in the port on the rail and see if fuel spurts out. (don't light it!).

Also you found faulty wires....you did make sure besides grounding they are not touching one-another.

Also so you smell gas? any sign it's rich/flooding? That little tube from the TB up to the Map up there on the firewall can't have a little crack or flaw or it might flood.

I don't know how burnt they are. The front 02 sensor is important, the rear not so much, just monitors the cat performance. You want to make sure that front one is OK as well as the wires to it. It (and the MAP) control mixture. So you have fuel, spark and compression. Try holding the pedal firm on the floor. On earlier Jeeps like mine this cuts off the fuel and provides Max air. If you are flooded, that might start it.

ok thx i will check that in a little. i no the wires that got burnt were going to the o2 sensor in the front. if that sensor is out would it cause the jeep not to start

Again, I'm just learning here. Not sure the 02 will keep it from starting. Idk. maybe flood it. If it's heater wire shorts??? maybe. Or maybe that could blow an important fuse. (same with the rear). An injector won't keep it from starting.

Often if it's flooded it will start after sitting overnight, (I might try floor-boarding it). Again that MAP tube can get brittle and crack. That would do it.
Crisp blue spark? Cranking "briskly"? Mine sometimes wont fire if it even sees a low battery near by! Gotta run. Hopefully someone who knows more will show up. Good luck!

A lot of good ideas by Flinstone. I've also read of people having issues similar to yours replacing the Cam Position Sensor (the one underneath the distributor cap) and that solving their issue. When you replaced the distributor, did you replace this sensor as well? Or reuse the old one?

if the wire grounded to metal when they got burnt could of blown a fuse causing no start issue have you checked fuses in both boxes yet?
