At least you know it is starter related and not a switch or relay problem. Could be the solinoid or the actual starter or a connection to one of those two.

so it was the starter, apparently the starter can past the test machine at the auto stores but still not work, it was cranking really slow when it did crank, new starter and she cranks fast and starts right up every time! thanks for all the help

No your local parts store should be able to see on their little machine how fast it's cranking and tell you that it's turning to slow and needs to be replaced..When I took mine in for testing the guy said works fine but it's turning a little slow and that's likely the issue..he then tossed a new one on the machine and showed me the difference and it was noticeable.
