Default 93 XJ stalling and flooding - basic checklist

Hi Guys,

I've had an intermittent issue where the jeep will stall when stopping sharply a few seconds/minutes after starting up cold. It did it this morning and I flooded since I couldn't get it to start. (strong gas smell under hood, no leaking) If I leave it 30 minutes it starts fine. The other issue is it sometimes "shudders" under partial throttle, I have to floor it and then its fine. Check engine light is on and I'm about to figure out how many "flashes" it has to lookup the code.

I don't know much history on the car ( was given to me by a neighbor who passed), so it could just be a poor tune.

its a 93, with 125k miles.

I'm going to check

Throttle position sensor
Idle Air Speed controller
Engine Coolant Temp sensor
Coil
Fuel filter
Spark plugs
02 sensor
Cat

I'm putting on a 4.5 lift kit at the same time, so figured I'd do some preventative maintenance.

Any other suggestions for the flooding/stalling issue to look for ?

Cheers
Grant

HI Guys,

I replaced the TPS and the truck seems to have gotten worse It now won't shift out of first gear and it stalls more often when revising. I'm assuming I either got a bad TPS or they sent me the wrong one, the check engine codes are 12 and 24 ( battery and TPS), and the check engine light comes on within a few seconds.

The 93 TPS doesn't appear to be adjustable, so the only other thing I was going to do was to check the voltage and see if its reporting the wrong value, and then re-install the old one to see what voltage that was putting out.

Default Think the new to is bad

Tested both the old and new tps. The old one reads 4.96 v. The new one reads 4,5 at fill throttle, but doesnt spring back like the old one and have taking it off and putting it on for the 2nd time, the jeep failed to start. Going to return it to Napa and hopefully next one is better.

Switched out the TPS and Idle Air Control valve today and all check engine lights gone, kickdown works again, no stalling, and she passed emissions.

Cheers
