Default 91 cherokee voltage regulator swap

has anyone attempted or know anyone that has attempted to install an external voltage regulator to repair the existing regulator that is an integral part of the computer?

You can install an external voltage reg. get one from a jy and get the plug that goes with it. any late eighties dodge will do. There are two small wires going from the pcm to the alt (dark blue @ a green one) tap into the blue one and match it to the jy plug, cut the green one and hook it from alt to second wire on jy reg plug.
Good luck!

Default cherokee voltage regulator swap

I located a solid dark blue and solid green wire at the pcm ... at the alternator plug the two wires are green/with red stripe and a solid darker green wire. Also one of the wires at the alternator( the drk green) seems to have a rubber coating while the other wire(green /with red stripe) seems to have a normal vinyl coating. The grn/red stripe wire receives 12v. when key is in on position. Is the rubber coated wire a resistance wire? and is this the green wire your referring to from the alt.?

Yes the dark blue wire is the one that goes to the 12v wire on the alt, it doesn't matter where you hook up(don't cut that wire). And yes that is the green wire I am talking about

This pic is for a 96, as long as u cut the dark green and run from alt to your regulator , it should work except you are going to get a "engine" light with a generator feild code

Hey great fix! Works really well. I'm gonna see if I can figure out how to eliminate the ck eng. light. Thnx for the info. If i do figure out how to get rid of the light I'll post the solution.

I know this is an old topic, but I bought this kit for my 93 Grand Cherokee V8, and it still don't work. I have a new Alt, and a new battery. According to the instructions in the kit, I am supposed to cut the green and green/blk wires at the alt. (Bosch Alt) Then is says to attach the solid green to the center regulator pin and then to ignition, then other wire hooks to green/blk wire and then to side pin on regulator. Don't work for me. Are both wires at the alt used? What am I doing wrong?

Default attempting voltage regulator swap

i have a 95 cherokee and yesterday on my way to work, it cut off and wouldnt start due to dead battery. i charged the battery and started the jeep, but the charge guage was at 0 and the jeep died shortly after. i replaced the alternator and it was charging at 14. half way home the charge guage spiked and was charging the battery so hard it blew one of the caps off. i had the alternator tested and it was fine. i got a voltage regulator for an 89 dodge dakota. i am having trouble locating the blue wire that was mentioned above. there are 3 larger guage blue wires coming out of the power distrobution center.. are any of these the ones i need? i think 1 is for the ignition switch and 2 of them go to 60 amp fuses labled generator output. any help would be great! i start college on monday and need to get this thing rolling.
