Default 91 4.0 has no spark

1st timer, hope this works.

I have a 91 cherokee sport with no spark. Ran good one day, pulled the steering apart to fix the tilt and now won't start. It has no spark. It had about 11volts to the coil in the run and start positions. (assuming 1 wire is plus and the other is neg.) So I replaced the coil with a new one. Same thing. Power to it and nothing out. I even cut the wires and ran 12v directly to the coil and still nothing when cranking.
Anyone have thoughts?? I don't mind rigging things to work since this thing will never see the road again cept on a trailer.

Thanks for any help

What do you mean by 'ran 12v directly to the coil' if you did that, the coil should give a spark.

If you connect it like it should be, it will only spark when the PCM signals to do so and there the culprit could be the CPS, the Crank Positioning Sensor or may also be something else I don't know. Check the CPS and wait for the experts to rock your thread!

There is a plug that goes from the pcm to the cap&rotar that u should try unplug then start the truck! If it starts while running plug it back in otherwise ur on the right track with the cps cause they r pritty sensitive

Thanks for the responses.

As far as the hooked up to 12v I just stripped the wires a bit and jumped it straight to the battery. Had a spark tester plugged in the wire from the coil to the cap and had nothing.
I checked the codes today and had 12, 22,23,24 non of them have to do with ignition. I think the cps code is 11.

I will try the plug to the cap and see what happens. Any other ideas??

Sorry for the delay. I finally had time to try a new cps (tdc) sensor. No change, still no spark.
Did I mess something up when I took the steering apart? As far as I know nothing in the column has to do with starting except the rod that goes down to the starter switch.
Any other thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Cool

Did you remove the steering colume fron the truck when repaired it or did you do it in the vehicle? Check to see that you did not dislodge any of the connectors during your repair. Started just fine before you took it apart so back track everything you did first before trying to find the problem elsewhere

I did the repair in the truck. I had to tighten the bolts for the tilt steering knuckle. I don't think any of the wiring up there has to do with ignition but who knows.

I could be off base, but doesn't an ignition wire run from the column out to the engine??
