Default 89 XJ no start!

Hello everyone great site first of all!! Secondly I have a 1989 XJ w/ 4.0L it will not start. I have spark and I can hear the fuel pump run and get fuel at the test port with the key on. I have not checked fuel pressure yet however. I drove it to work today and moved it once since I got there and then this evening it won't start. Any suggestions? It's not even trying to hit sounds like just cranking. Thanks alot Jeremy

my first guess would be ballist resistor, its the ceramic thing right by your air box that has two wires going into it they are orange and black. to see if that is your problem get a piece of wire and put both of the wires together, if tht is your problem it will start right up. i know it sounds to good to be true but that little guy does go bad... it did on mine and others here.

Try spraying starting fluid in the TB to get it to fire, if it fires then its a fuel issuse, that will narrow it down real quick for you

I am going to put on a fuel filter in the morning. As well as checking fuel pressure and the other items mentioned. My problem tonight is that its at work I drove our parts runner home. I am just trying to arm myself with a little more knowledge for tomorrow.

a few seconds after your jeep is started the ceramic thing resists the voltage going to your fuel pump, so it will run quieter if the terminals get corroded it will start but after those few seconds the pump does not get the correct voltage causing it to die .

Silly Renix.

Pull a plug and see if it's wet.

Corroded connection @ the ballist resistor. Thanks to everyone involved.
