Default 89 xj head gasket and other things

my friends xj overheated one night, rad exploded.
here is where we are so far.
4pin injectors are in, new open system rad is in, head gasket is changed
new belt is on.

intake and small air hoses needing to be replaced, injectors need to go in and rad in and its all done. here are a couple pics.

i consider myself very tech savvy, ive done a hand full of motor swaps, rebuilt suspensions, brakes yadada. my friend has little to no experience.

ive never personally done a head gasket, and i searched and search for xj write ups. couldnt find any, so we just said screw it and got to work. any questions or comments let me know. its very strait forward. i labeled and marked all of the bolts to where they go and torque specs.

How did the old head gasket look? Mine overheated and blew the Rad also. New water pump, t-stat, rad. runs just like before.

what gasket set did you use? how long total did it take? I'm planning to do my 89's head in the couple weeks and am looking for as much info as possible too. Anything odd or difficult I need to look out for?

Its not a entirely too complicated process. Hardest part in my eyes would be torquing everything back to specs. If i had to replace the head gasket on my Jeep anytime down the road i would be going with the expensive permadry head gasket I found at Oreillys. Its a thick and very well made gasket. The gasket is made of mostly steel from what i was observing. Just a opinion. But props for taking on the challenge man! Hope everything goes back together great.

ok ok guys. now im going to need some help.

the night of the rad exploding, the jeep still started and ran fine.

we have it 99% back together tried turning it over tonight and got no spark.
fuel was coming through the check valve, its all in correct firing order.

i believe there is no spark. but im trying to figure out what would have caused this while we were changing the gasket. we ran out of day light so i couldnt keep going. but i really need some help what do you guys think it is.

i dont think im getting power to the coil.

a loose connection somewhere? are absolutely sure everything is plugged back in correctly? did you pull a plug and make sure there is no spark?
