By the way I don't have a fan clutch it's a mechanical fan off of the serpentine belt.

Ok thank you I will NOT use the head gasket sealer crap then, just didn't know if it was worth a try or not.

The fan clutch is what controls the mechanical fan. It is located on the fan itself

Yep. IF you are stuck out in the middle of nowhere and have to get to civilization, you might use it. Otherwise, don't. It's temporary at best (if it even gets the job done, which is doubtful), and you'll have a mess to clean out of your engine.

??? How is air going to escape from the back of the head?

It will look like part of the fan itself. It's that big finned thing.

This is my memory from about 5 years ago. But i had an 88 with a closed system. Isn't there the sensor that you unscrew where air purges out and then coolant once the air is gone?

exactly, there is a temp sensor at the back of the head on the driver's side, you unscrew that and it will allow coolant to come out. you have to be nose down, since that is the "top" of the engine, or of at least the cooling system. don't do it when the engine is warm, You'll regret it...

Okay, that makes sense.

But it's much easier to put the left front wheel up on something (like a ramp) and just run it for a while. Works just fine.

That sounds like a good idea I'm going to try that. But for a closed system like the op you still have to remove the sensor at the back of the head. Its not off to the side like xjs with a radiator

Ah, that do make a difference! I'm not familiar with the closed system.
