You will need to locate the driveshaft for the 8.25, the u-joints are all the same but the shafts are a different length. The pinion on the 8.25 sticks out a little further than the D35. The D35 shaft would be a little to long for a XJ with stock heigth suspension. If you had a 4.5 to 6.5 inch lift the D35 shaft would work with no problem.

Any particular reason you are installing a 8.25??? From what i hear there isn't that much of a difference between the 8.25 and the D35. I think the spline counts aren't that different. If you are going to go through the hassle of an axle swap i would go for a larger axle. Ford 8.8 or even a D44. Unless it is just a personal prefence for you.

It depends... 27 spline 8.25 are pre 97 and are almost the same as a D35 however, they're a little stronger. 29 spline 8.25 are 97 and up and are around the same strength as a D44 except for a few diffrences.

As for a jeep with abs you can unplug it under the rear seat for the back lines. You'll have the abs light still on so you wont legally pass inspection in most states. Also the Driveshaft will be to long so take it to a drive shaft shop have them cut it down and rebalanced unless you go SYE or have the orginal. Note there are diffrences in driveshaft lengths depending on (Trans, T-case, Axle.) Other than that you'll need new u-bolts for the 3" diameter tubes.
