ok so i was just wonder. my jeep need some oil and my mom has some castrol gtx high mileage 5w30. i usually put 10w30. i was wondering if i could top it off with the 5w30. is it even safe to do that?

I have 5w30 in mine now, it works but i wouldn't recommend it. The warmer my jeeps gets the more my oil gauge drops

At operating temp, both 5W30 and 10W30 are the same viscosity and flow the same. 5W30 will flow slightly quicker than 10W30 from the bottom of the motor to the top when temp is below normal operating temp.

If the outside temp is primarily above 60 degrees farenheit, I use 10-30

If the outside temp is primarily BELOW 60 degrees farenheit, I use 5-30

Topping off a crankcase full of 10-30 is absolutely not an issue. As a percentage of the total oil, topping off is insignificant and changes nothing. Unless you are two quarts low!
