Default High rpm at start-up

Hi Guys I am looking for some help,

I have a 1989 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0 135000 miles. I was having problems with oil leaks and blow-by. I replaced the CCV tuba and the other emission hose assemblies along with the rear main seal and pan gasket. This has solved my blow-by and oil leak issues. I have another problem I would like to address. When starting the motor revs at 2000+ RPMs. This is causing the valves to rap until the oil pressure kicks-up. Any suggestions?

These forums are great. They have helped me through all kinds of repairs and have saved countless dollars.

Thanks for the help!!

Recheck your vacuum/emission hoses. Sounds like something is hooked up wrong or leaking. JMO
And Welcome to CF!

Easy way to check for a vaccum leak is too spray around the intake and all the places vaccum hoses go nad all that good stuff with brake clean, pay attition to what area you are spraying it and listin for the change in idle with the jeep, thats how i always find mine haha.

interesting.... i jsut tried it and i dont know if i was doing it right. i went out and turned it over and when it would start to idle high toward 1000 rpms, i sprayed the whole area and i think it made the idle go down, but this things has been so inconsistant i am not sure, i turned it off and sprayed the area down recklessly and then turned it on again. it did its thing where i shot up to 2krpm but instead of sitting there and flooring itself it shot down and idled semi normally, ill have to get into it more tomarrow or something.
