everyone says they have a renix, i get that its a jeep but whats so different about them?

87-90..... refers to Renault bendix injection. Still a 4.0 but pre Chrysler injection. Different engine management and little.differences on the.engine itself.

ahh i was wondering b/c i had a post talking about alternators and a guy had a "renix" so grand cherokee alternator wouldnt work on his

Will work with an external regulator... which is actually not as hard as people make it sound.
