Default 2004 engine to 1997 engine install?

hi all im new here found the site a couple weeks ago and basically hide in the shadows lol. but now i have a ? i did do a search

my 97 cherokee has a bad crank. i found a 04 4.0 with 110k miles on it.
i know the intake/exhaust is different and that its coils instead of distributor.

now ive read some posts that taking the cam sensor out i can put my distirbutor in it. is this true anything else to worry about? im using the long block and intake. thanks david from delaware

i kinda did the same thing, except 2002 to 1989. there were some differences here and there, but i was able to use all the 1989 accessories and computer and i get close to 25 mpg on the highway. the distributor will replace the cam sensor. if you are going to use the 2004 intake, make sure you can use your 1997 injectors or the plugs will swap over.

Installing a 2004 4.0 to 1997 you will change your motors mounts from old engine and keep the distributor and coil ignition system modify exhaust system to match old exhaust. Other than a few minder problem that mite come up let us know how it works. Also out a wrangler the water pump is different on some models do to the fan location.
