2001 XJ Good deal???
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false
I get my student loan check this friday so i plan to buy either an XJ, ZJ, or WJ. I came across this one a few minutes ago and it seems like a very good deal. KBB for a excellent condition is 4200, good is 3800, and fair is 3300. Seems like a could price and they might come down to 2500. any thing specific i should look for if i go take a look at it.
I know mechanical things but im new to 4 wheel drive.
Thanks for any input.

Personally bro, if you're into working on cars/trucks, the Cherokee as a whole is great. Easily modifiable, many parts available, not too expensive, and the end product is fun (and cool) to drive.
IMO (in my opinion) the 2000 or newer might be something to stay away from. If you search the threads (using the search drop down box at the top) you can search for comparisons/opinions of what year to buy.
Also, Wikipedia has a list of the changes from year to year on the Cherokees.
These changes include axle size/ transfer cases, overdrive... etc, etc.
One IMPORTANT thing they seem not to mention, however, is that starting in 2000, they went to a direct fuel injection instead of the old coil pack, etc.
This weekend the coil went on my 98. Cost me 36 bucks and 1/2 hour of time... glad it wasn't the 2000 version.
Personally, I like the 98-99's.
Asthetically pleasing, has OVERDRIVE (very inportant on the gas mileage!)
a nice everyday driver/weekend getaway vehicle.
Good luck, take your time shopping, check Craigs/multiple sources,
Welcome to the forum.
JEEP!!!

I've seen 01's with similar mileage for like 4000 sometimes. It looks like it had a minor collision in the rear though, the bumper looks bent up. Otherwise it seems like a good deal @ $2900 Just make sure nothing is significantly wrong with it. I'm not too familiar with what to keep an eye out for on the later models, so I can't tell you. There are plenty of people here that will have tons of input though.

check the bottom the XJ is famous for the rust on the rockers and the floors and the back bumper looks lopsided might have been an in accident but your good at fixing cars then it should be no problem fixing that bumper.

its also the cylinder heads they tend to crack easier in the mid 99's to 2001's but you keep up regular maintenance they should be fine. also the back bumper on that Xj has some pretty big rusts spots

keep looking tho there are plenty of good deals for XJs. just don't rush into it because you might end up spending more money fixing it then you paid OR its worth.
